Cool Earth

While many of the campaigns have been about identity, Cool Earth is about survival.  It is quite clear that the dirty habits, largely in the West, but now spreading elsewhere, will destroy our planet, unless we radically change our behaviour.  Changing behaviour takes a huge amount of effort, and usually time.  There is actually one way in which we can buy more time, and that is to preserve our rainforests.  Cool Earth is about allowing individuals, not waiting for Government, not waiting for international bodies, but for individuals to make a decisive play for the survival of our planet.  The idea is that with membership monies, we buy under trust for local people parts of the rainforest, and allow those who are native to those areas to farm, protect and police them.  And in so doing, not only strengthen their local positions, but ensure that the world’s lungs, which are the rainforest, continue their present function while we, the “Dirty West”, change our appalling habits.

In addition to promoting Cool Earth, I am trying to encourage the Government to take the developments in Carbon Capture technology as a a possible route out of the Carbon Crisis.

Cool Earth Trustee, Mark Ellingham talks about Cool Earth, Carbon Capture Technology and Frank's EDM 582.

With the construction of a third runway Heathrow now a certainty, we must take measures to remove Carbon emissions from the atmosphere. Frank has been very active on this issue in the past founding a charity to purchase and return sections of rainforest to the ownership by the local community, protecting the local way of life for future generations, but also protecting the our most abundant natural Carbon reduction resource.

Creator of the Rough Guides series and now a Cool Earth Trustee, Mark Ellingham spoke to us about Cool Earth and the Carbon Capture Technology Frank put forward in his EDM 582.

"Carbon Scrubbers" can be used to remove the Carbon from the atmosphere. Frank suggests that the cost of implementing this technology should be levied on those causing the emissions, leading the carbon neutral aeroplanes, trains, cars and buses.
