Feeding Birkenhead’s plans to prevent children being hungry during next week’s half term, and to provide free school breakfasts for the remainder of the school year, are today published by Frank Field MP.

Four Feeding Birkenhead projects are running a total of 24 meal and fun sessions between Monday (20th) and Friday (24th), building on the past two years’ work which has seen over 2,000 children being helped during the school holidays.

In addition, local residents have raised £200 towards Feeding Birkenhead’s free school breakfasts initiative which will see at least ten schools receive pallets of porridge, muesli, cereals, jams, fruit snacks, fruit drinks. All of the food, which has become surplus in supermarkets’ supply chains, would have gone to waste had it not been rescued by a charity called His Church which supplies Feeding Birkenhead’s projects.

Commenting on these latest initiatives, Frank said: ‘Birkenhead residents have yet again shown great determination and generosity: by putting themselves forward to run and volunteer for local projects that give as many children as possible the chance to enjoy their half term break; and enabling ten schools to provide decent breakfasts for hundreds of children for the remainder of the school year.’
